12 hours of driving. Alone. It will takes it toll on you.
Get up. First thing meditation and try to plan the day ahead. It’s going to be a long day of driving and I new it but I wanted to try and get as far as I could. So after stopping and trying a few vehicle repairs we are off again.
Let’s just say it’s a long freaking day. I get about 2 hours into the drive and the winds start to pick up. Slowly nearing Vegas and I’m getting thrown all over the road. Only doing a I 50-55 and still left and right left and right. Hitting the rumble strips over and over. As each semi passes I get pulled straight into them and then when they pass I get blown over the rumble strips.
This continues on and on and every so often I have to remember to let go of the steering wheel to let my knuckles take a break. My knuckles are white and they are super stiff. I’m not really enjoying the desert 🌵. There’s just not a whole lot of anything besides dust storms and dirt devils. A few cacti and a couple tumble weeds.
Oh, but then you hit Vegas. The master great idea of a city that’s insanely huge takes crazy amounts of water and is built in the desert. Great idea. Have to love humans. Sometimes we just don’t think. Don’t get me wrong Vegas is beautiful and the lights and shows and grandness of the hotels is magical. But seriously, a huge city needing so much water in a place that has none. Brilliant.
I don’t even stop and throw a $20 on anything I’m just too stressed to get farther passed this wind. Slowly but surely I keep moving on. Pulling over every once in awhile to check everything and make sure all is good. So far so good. A little wear on the tires I’m not a fan of but we keep on going.
And then, we come to what looks like the entrance into Canada. Like a legit border. All lanes stopping and security everywhere. Totally reminds me of the border. Maybe I took a wrong turn? Did I really mess up? Nope. It’s just California. Deciding to be so insane they have their own checkpoint border. Trying to prevent beetles and fruits or something from getting in. I get asked, “do you have any fresh fruits or campfire wood?” I don’t. He says enjoy wherever you are moving to.
On we go. I ask Siri to call a few RV places I found at the gas station. So we find one that’s open in Bakersfield, California. It’s a little further than I wanted to go because it’s going to be late. Plus, an hour back again so by the time I pulled in I drove a little over 12 hours today. I decide to call it a night early and buy some Panda Express and treat myself to Chinese.
On my way to pick up my food I realize….Yep….I’m definitely in California now…there are motorcycle bike cops. And it’s 65 degrees out and no one has their windows down in their cars. Except me. All windows down blaring my Lauren Sanderson and Mike Posner out the window. Vibing hard. Because you know what? I made it to the west coast and I’m enjoying every minute of it. I’m becoming me. Who I’ve always wanted to be. Being okay with myself and loving myself along the way. Enjoying the warm air and music. Time for bed.
Until next time my friends,
