I bought my first shower today…literally(best $5 I’ve ever spent)
I was so dead I forgot about my hike in the morning I wanted to do. Just headed out and about 20 minutes into the drive I was like ohhhh…dang. Oh well time to move on. My body was shot from the hike yesterday. But off to finding a new campsite and then head to Grand Canyon.
On my way I decided to stop and get groceries in a small town called Kanab that had a decent sized grocery store. Haven’t bought groceries since the beginning of the trip. I stock up and decide I better find somewhere for a shower and to fill up propane. I fill up with gas at the gas station next to the grocery store and ask the cashier….”do you know anywhere in town I can buy a shower?” And she repeats it back to me “buy a shower?” I have to hold in my laugh before the guy next to her says oh he’s been camping and needs a shower. I say thanks and head to the closest RV park.
I walk into the front desk and ask how much a shower is and if I can fill propane. She answers yes to both and says the shower is $5. It feels weird to buy a shower but I have not filled up my camper yet due to freezing temperatures at night and not wanting to risk a pipe to freeze.
So I get the code and head to the showers and all said and done it was the longest, hottest shower I’ve ever taken and boy did it feel amazing 😂 I then head over to the probate and the dude helping me out is super nice and has a bunch of recommendations for the area and a couple parks.
I head out of town and realize the tiredness is creeping in even more. I decide to find a campsite in the National forest neighboring the Grand Canyon. It’s a peaceful site and I park and unload. Off to Grand Canyon I go.

On the way I’m listening to one of my favorite podcasts. It’s called Good Life Project. On this episode Elizabeth Gilbert talks about life and questions what you are doing. She asks, “Where is your time going? Trying to stay safe? Or are your shooting for it in a world that’s proven it is unsafe”
It hit me really hard. What are you doing with your time that you have? Are you taking risks? Are you going to regret anything you haven’t done? Are you shooting for the stars? Are you taking that leap? Or are you playing it safe in a world that’s proven over and over to be an unsafe world? Take the unsafe path. Go for it.
It’s the perfect podcast before I drive up to the canyon.
Holy man…I drive about 45 minutes through a National forest on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I park at the visitors center and get a first peak at the canyon. It’s unreal. I use my all trails app to see the best trail that’s short and boom find one Bright Angel point. I walk past the visitors center and wow…..I see the canyon for the first time in my life.

It’s a greatness and depth of massiveness you can’t really comprehend. The brain has a hard time processing something so vast. It’s incredible. It’s spectacular. It’s majestic. It truly is…Grand. I sit there in awe for some time just taking in the beauty. The tiredness is slowly hitting me more and more and I decide I’ll head back to camp and do a big hike into the canyon tomorrow. My mind is running like crazy trying to decide if what I just saw is real. It is.
Off to camp I go. Back roughly and hour to relax and do some cleaning and reorganizing. Taking in the peace and quiet of the forest. No one else is near me. Just my camper and myself. Enjoying what this earth has to offer us.
Until next time my friends,
